Lincoln Square

Lincoln Square is a treasured play space in Carlton, a suburb in the heart of Melbourne. It is valued by residents, local workers, students and visitors for its mature trees, sunny lawns and public gathering spaces.

The City of Melbourne upgraded the playground in 2020. The park was opened to the public in September 2021 with new site features that meet community expectations.

The playground now features rope bridges, play towers, swings and slides, and play structures. Most timber structures, including the boardwalks and shady seats, are made from salvaged City of Melbourne trees.

A giant 150-year-old Moreton Bay Figs Tree dominates the playground area. The space has been designed to provide imaginative nature play for all ages. The main highlight of the playground is two wooden cubbies perched on top of high poles. Visitors can slide through a big metal tunnel from the higher to the lower cubby via a long rope net bridge.

Smart, IoT-connected Christie cooktops in a proprietary Melbourne City Council cabinet provides cooking facilities that make the park ideal for a family outing.
