Bradbury Park

Discovering Bradbury Park

In the heart of the Kedron community in Brisbane, Bradbury Park offers diverse amenities and an inviting atmosphere. At its centre is the ‘Biological City’ themed intergenerational playscape which, according to Brisbane City Council, sets “… a new benchmark for both government and private industry in providing innovative play for older children”. A combination of landscape, architecture, art and play, it reconceptualises playgrounds and challenges modern playground design.

Brisbane City Council ran an open competition for the Bradbury Park space, won by a team assembled by Alcorn Middleton Architects. The resulting space has won numerous architectural awards, including the John Dalton Award for Building of the Year, the Greater Brisbane People’s Choice Award and two Commendations for Public Architecture and Urban Design. It has also been nominated for a 2024 AILA Landscape Architecture Award.

Playgrounds are critical pieces of urban infrastructure. They support child development through play and serve as active public places for gathering, community and social interaction. The amenities at Bradbury Park augment the stunning play space with walking and cycling paths and open green spaces, including lush lawns that provide ample room for picnics, games, and relaxation under the Queensland sun.

Another standout feature of Bradbury Park is its excellent barbecue facilities. The park has several communal barbecue areas, making it ideal for gatherings and celebrations. The range of amenities means that Bradbury Park isn’t just a place to relax; it’s a hub for community engagement. The park hosts various events and activities throughout the year, fostering connections among residents and enhancing the neighbourhood spirit.
