James Watkinson Reserve
Renewed Community Space at James Watkinson Reserve
James Watkinson Reserve has been revitalised to better support everyday recreation and community life in one of Sydney’s most established inner-city neighbourhoods.
Delivered for the City of Sydney, the upgrade renewed ageing infrastructure while strengthening the park’s role as a welcoming local hub. Mature trees were retained to preserve shade and character, complemented by fresh planting, improved turf, and layered landscaping that enhances comfort year-round.
A refreshed play space now anchors the reserve, featuring upgraded equipment and a new nature play area designed for children of all abilities. A new link path and integrated lighting improve accessibility, safety, and evening use, making the park more functional throughout the day.
A standout addition is the Christie ICON barbecue facilities. Designed for urban environments, their streamlined form blends seamlessly into the landscape while delivering reliable, easy-to-use cooking performance. Positioned near seating and open lawns, the barbecues encourage spontaneous gatherings, relaxed weekend lunches, and everyday social connections without overwhelming the park’s character.
The result is a thoughtfully renewed neighbourhood green in the heart of Sydney.
