Rotary Park

St Kilda has been “Melbourne’s playground” since the 1900s. Located outside the iconic Stokehouse restaurant in St Kilda, Rotary Park was upgraded by Port Phillip Council in 2022. The revitalised park is a perfect weekend destination for holidaymakers and Melburnians escaping the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Rotary Club of St Kilda suggested the small park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the separation of the Colony of Victoria from NSW in 1851. This section of the foreshore has been home to the Catani Arch footbridge since 1916, and Council agreed to name the site Rotary Park after a small playground and barbecue area was installed in 2001.

A highlight of Rotary Park is its stunning views of Port Phillip Bay from the Catani Arch footbridge. The park’s location on the waterfront provides a perfect spot to watch boats sail by and enjoy the sunset.

The playground was removed during the rebuilding of the Stokehouse after a fire destroyed the restaurant in 2014. In addition to landscaping improvements of a lawn, vegetation, and tree planting, infrastructure improvements include a combination play unit, pathways, picnic table, seating, and barbecue facilities.

Notably, the park now provides an accessible connection to South Beach Reserve and the foreshore. Council selected a Christie A Series barbecue to offer an aesthetically pleasing, corrosion resistant, accessible cooking facility for the high-profile location.
