The Western Foreshore Recreation Precinct

Bringing People Back to the Foreshore

The Western Foreshore Recreation Precinct has transformed a once underused stretch of Mandurah’s waterfront into a vibrant, inclusive public space designed for everyday use and major community events. Set along the Peel-Harvey Estuary, the precinct provides play, leisure, and gathering spaces that support locals and visitors year-round.

As part of the broader Mandurah Waterfront Project, the redevelopment reflects strong community input and a clear focus on creating places where people can spend time together. Destination play spaces, including the Koolaanga Waabiny Playground and the skate and activity area, sit alongside open lawns, shaded picnic zones, public art and event spaces, encouraging people to linger rather than pass through.

Integrated throughout the precinct are generous picnic facilities, including three large ICON barbecues that support family gatherings, community celebrations, and casual waterfront meals. Positioned close to seating, shade, and play areas, these facilities make it easier for people to meet, eat, and connect in the heart of the foreshore.

The result is a highly activated public space that strengthens Mandurah’s waterfront identity, supports social connection, and reinforces the foreshore as a place to gather, play, and relax across seasons, and for all ages.
