Why Christie Barbecues Endure in Every Environment

The lifetime value of a public Barbecue

When it comes to community infrastructure, the cheapest option rarely delivers lasting value. Many public barbecues appear similar, but quickly deteriorate due to exposure to salt, moisture, heat, or heavy use. Frequent maintenance and early replacement soon erase any initial savings.

Christie Barbecues are built differently. Designed, manufactured, and tested in Australia, they’re engineered for decades of public use in the world’s most challenging environments. With over 50 years of field data and continuous development, Christie products deliver the lowest whole-of-life cost, outlasting and outperforming cheaper alternatives every time.

Coastal and Marine Environments

Well-maintained standard stainless-steel alloys such as 304 and 4622 perform as well as marine-grade steel in most coastal settings, at a lower lifecycle cost.

Salt, sand, and humidity will corrode any unmaintained surface, even marine-grade 316. Regular cleaning and rinsing with fresh water prevent “tea staining” and keep barbecues looking new.

Good site design also matters: proper drainage, waste management, and a powder-coated or stainless cabinet ensure long-term durability and appearance.

Alpine and Cold Regions

Cold climates bring condensation, freezing, and constant moisture. Christie’s fully stainless construction prevents rust, while IP-rated controls protect against water ingress.

Basic maintenance, including cleaning, clearing drainage, and testing operation, keeps systems reliable throughout the year. For areas with extreme winters, Christie’s drop-in cooktops can be easily removed and stored indoors until warmer months.

Hot and Arid Locations

Dust and heat testing are essential for any outdoor electrical system. Christie’s sealed design keeps internal components protected without requiring complex upkeep.

Enclosed cabinets and IP-rated parts prevent the build-up of grit and overheating. After cleaning with bore or recycled water, a quick fresh-water rinse prevents mineral staining. Routine cleaning and ventilation checks are all that’s needed for decades of dependable performance.

Urban and High-Use Areas

In busy public parks, student campuses, and private shared outdoor spaces, durability is critical. Christie barbecues use thicker-gauge stainless steel, reinforced folds, and concealed fixings for superior strength, safety, and vandal resistance.

Regular cleaning maintains hygiene and presentation, while the robust structure withstands constant use and rough handling.

Humid and Tropical Climates

In tropical zones, airflow and upkeep matter more than over-specifying materials.

Fully enclosed stainless cabinets, IP-rated controls, and effective waste separation prevent corrosion and organic build-up. Routine washing and ventilation checks keep systems clean, safe, and functional year-round.

Durability by Design

Long-term reliability is no accident. It is built into every Christie barbecue.

Our drop-in cooktops and each cabinet combine premium aluminium and stainless steel, IP-rated controls, and proven waste systems that have been developed and refined over the past six decades.

Marine-grade options are available upon request for extreme conditions. However, in most environments, Christie’s standard stainless construction delivers exceptional longevity and the lowest total cost of ownership.
